Shades of Brilliance / by Bethany Handfield

It was a wonderful challenge to take part in Shades of Brilliance - a fundraiser for the Penticton Art Gallery and the Okanagan Symphony Orchestra.

Artist created a lamp shade or a full lamp to be auctioned off at the event on Saturday, September 23rd.

Not being functional design minded, this was a bit of a challenge for me. With an amazing collection of beads and crystals at my disposal, curtesy of artist Jodi Forster, I strung, and wrapped, and wound, and strung some more, for days on end. All while watching Twin Peaks the Return ;)

After about 3 days of serious work the lamp shade was born that I am calling Shades of Gypsy as it would seem to fit beautifully in Stevie Nicks' bedroom or a fortune teller's caravan. Finished off with an Edison bulb she was ready to hang. The lamp shade contains crystals of rose quartz, citrine, turquoise, jasper, topaz, tigers eye, and so much more. A true labour of love.
